Varsity to set up Intl. Study Centre for Physical Biology

Yet another feather in the cap of Mysore University

Mysore :

The prestigious University of Mysore will be setting up an International Study Centre for Physical Biology in collaboration with Singapore National University.

The matter was discussed at the special Syndicate meeting held at the Crawford Hall on Monday. A team led by Prof. Shivashankar explained about the details of the project which is said to have impressed the Syndicate members and gave their approval for the proposed Centre.

The infrastructure for the International Centre will be constructed at a cost of Rs. 100 crore and the land needed for it will be provided by the University of Mysore.

Authorities of the Singapore University were keen to set up the Centre in Manasagangotri campus itself. However, VC Prof. K.S. Rangappa suggested that since the University is celebrating its centenary, setting up the centre in a new location will be a milestone. As such, the International Study Centre will come up at the 22-acre plot of land at the foot of Chamundi Hill.

The Centre will play a vital role in the study of drugs and drug molecules. It will be a first-of-its- kind not only in India but in the entire world, said Prof. Rangappa.

Admissions for the four-year course and Ph.D will be made at the international level.

Prof. T.V. Ramakrishnan from IISc., Bangalore, former Vice-Chancellor and former Director of NAAC Prof. H.A. Ranganath and others were present.
