Matka-Fod , First time in city, marks Krishna Jayanti

A grand procession marked the Krishna Jayanti celebrations organised under the joint aegis of District Administration and Zilla Yadava Samithi in city today.

DC C. Shikha launched the procession at Kote Anjaneya Swamy Temple at the Palace, in the presence of Chitradurga Yadava Mutt Seer Sri Krishnayadavananda Swamiji.

A jeep designed in the form of a horse-drawn carriage (Ashwa Ratha) and decorated with flowers in which a Krishna Idol was placed, with children attired in various dresses of Lord Krishna sitting beside, was the star attraction of the procession.

Several folk teams including Nandi Dhwaja, Veeragase Kunitha, Mahila Veeragase, Dollu Kunitha and Kerala folk art, featuring hundreds of artistes, accompanied the procession, while Yadava Samithi members holding aloft a child dressed as Sri Krishna, danced along the procession route.

A butter-milk pot (Mosaru Madike) was symbolically broken (as called Matka-fod in Maharashtra). The procession passed through K.R. Circle, D. Devaraj Urs road, Dewan’s road and Vinoba road before culminating at Nanjaraju Bahadur Choultry on Vinoba road where the celebrations took place.

MLC G. Mahusudhan, former Mayor D. Dhruvakumar, Corporator D. Nagabushan, Ex-Corporator M. Shivanna and others were present.
